Der Kiln ist dreigeteilt. Im
unteren Bereich erfolgt die Feuerung mit Kohle und Torf. Das
Brennstofflager befindet sich direkt gegenüber der Feueröffnung. Der heiße
Torfrauch steigt in den mittleren Bereich auf und durchdringt den
Trockenboden, auf dem das feuchte Malz ausgebreitet liegt. Das Malz von
nichtrauchigen Whiskys wird mit einem Feuer ohne Zugabe von Torf
getrocknet. Der obere Bereich des Kilns enthält den Rauchabzug. Das
kleine Pagodendach auf der Spitze des Kilns verhindert, dass Regen auf die
trocknende Gerste fällt.
Das getrocknete Malz kann in den
Vorratsbehältern bis zu sechs Wochen gelagert werden. |
The kiln consists of three parts. The firing is done by coal and peat in the lower part. The fuel storage is situated
opposite of the fire hole. The hot peat smoke rises into the middle part, where the wet barley is spread for drying on the drying floor. The malt of non-peated whisky is dried without using peat. The upper part of the kiln is the chimney for the used air. The small pagoda shaped roof on top of the chimney prevents, that the rain falls on the dried malt
again.
The dried malt may be stored up to six weeks in the malt bins.
